If it moves, it’s biology.
If it smells, it’s chemistry.
If it’s broken, its physics!

The Sinaloa Middle School Science Department has worked hard to provide your student with not only a theoretical learning of the materials, but many hands-on activities and labs.

7th Grade Science

Science 7 provides students with opportunities for a comprehensive study of living organisms, using an investigative approach.  Students will cover a broad range of life science, starting with the basic building blocks of life and progressing to an extensive, all-encompassing view of the Earth and its ecosystems.  Emphasis is placed upon the development of skills in critical thinking and the use of laboratory activities and equipment with special emphasis on methods of scientific inquiry.

Specific State Standards to be Covered Include:

  • Cell Biology and Genetics
  • Earth and Life History
  • Structure and Function of Living Things
  • Physical Principles in Living Systems
  • Systems of the Human Body

8th Grade

The Simi Valley Unified School District grade level brochure summarizes the California content standards for this class.  8th Grade science will focus on these areas:

Astronomy—the structure and composition of the universe.

Motion—the velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position.

Forces—unbalanced forces cause changes in velocity.

Structure and Matter—each of the more than 100 elements of matter has distinct properties and a distinct atomic structure.

Periodic Table—the organization of the periodic table.

Investigation and Experimentation—scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations.
